Thanks to a contact, two more 404C models have been identified. I don't know if these cars exist still, but I do know they are no longer registered.

Total: 1916 !

Tonight I got another one, because its owner entered the data on the Registry website :

4592213, Cabriolet Injection, 25 October 1963, Bleu Pavone 1036, Black Leather, this car is in restoration at the end of 2014, LÜBECK GERMANY

Total: 1917 !

The Canadian importer must have ordered a few of these cars at one time, so the close serial numbers are probably to be expected. My own car was also sold when new in Ontario, same as the one that came down the assembly line at nearly the same time!

Today Peter Teuffel has found another one for me:

6803099, Carrosserie 16653, Cabriolet Injection, 12 November 1968, sold in Germany when new, MINDEN GERMANY

Total: 1918 !

On December 27th, I am hopeful that I will have one or two new ones to add from Ontario, Canada.

I got one more today, thanks to an anonymous source in Ontario :

6801237, Cabriolet Injection 1967, Bleu Clair Métallisé 1158, Black Leather, Nardi floor shifter, CDN model, I am not sure whether it still exists in 2014, ONTARIO CANADA

This contact indicated that the new numbers that he or she gave me, three in total, are the only 404C survivors that made it to the 1980s, into the computer records era. Before that, cars were registered on paper records only. The newer data/current status is private and cannot be shared. Certainly, the 1960s and 1960s in Ontario would not have been kind to the easily rusted 404C bodywork, so most of them probably disappeared from the road by the end of 1979.

The 404 Club President sent me this one:

6801805, Carrosserie 14899, Coupé Injection, 1968, Bleu Clair Métallisé 1158, stripped of parts, does not exist any more. Some sheet metal of this car was used in the restoration of Cabriolet No. 4499206, LA PLANCHE FRANCE

The total remains at 1919 cars because just after Christmas I realized that there was a duplicate record in the database, so we "lost" one!

Smrtash Computing Solutions has made major improvements to the Peugeot 404 Registry website. It is located here: http://www.smrtash.ca/404/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The improvements include:
1. the cars can be sorted by body type (Sedan, Station Wagon, Pick-up, Coupé, Cabriolet);
2. the cars can be searched by chassis (serial) number, Carrosserie Peugeot number and the country the car is located in;
3. a photograph of the registered 404 (if one is available) is now visible;
4. you can now browse through all the records, rather than having to guess a chassis number.

I hope that you enjoy this new site and if you can, please help Le Club 404 by adding your car to the Registry, or sending a photo to me if it is registered already, but there is no photo.

I found another one!

It was discovered on a restorer's website. On this site there was a photo of the engine block with its stamped serial number on the engine mount lug (the engine was a standard exchange KF2 unit, so the number was hand stamped when the engine was fitted some years ago):
